Maths
Maths is taught across the school using the White Rose Maths scheme of learning. This is a mastery approach to teaching and learning that has been designed to support the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum. To ensure new concepts are developed fully, the concrete-pictorial-abstract approach is used to build competency in all areas.
Concrete – children have the opportunity to use concrete objects and manipulatives to help them understand what they are doing.
Pictorial – alongside this, pictorial representations are used to help with reasoning and problem solving.
Abstract – through inclusion of concrete and pictorial representations, children should have a greater understanding of abstract methods.
