In this section of the website, you will find information about our approach to teaching Maths at St Leonard’s.
At St Leonard’s, we believe that maths is an essential life skill that is used throughout our daily lives. We offer an enriched curriculum whereby maths is developed and enjoyed in all aspects of school life and with the whole school community e.g. fundraising, events and initiatives reflecting local and global themes. We aim to provide our children with an exciting, relevant and challenging curriculum. We strive to ensure that all children develop a positive attitude towards maths and numeracy and become confident, life-long mathematicians. Our teaching of mathematics is based on the mastery approach – the belief that every child is capable of success. Our carefully designed maths curriculum endeavours to reflect this, thus providing a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. Maths at St Leonard’s is delivered through daily maths lessons and revisited through regular basic skills activities and interventions. We deliver lessons that are creative and engaging. We intend for our children to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge across all the curriculum and within their daily lives, as maths is intrinsic throughout all subjects. We aim to ensure that all pupils: We believe our children will:
